Background

The Alexa Design System is a collection of reusable components, templates, patterns and guidelines that both designers and developers alike can leverage to create responsive experiences across the Echo Show family devices.

My role within the Design System team was to communicate with our stakeholders to understand their needs and where the design system was lacking and with these findings create new and improved components, templates and guidelines in a way that would scale across each of our device types including mobile experiences, Echo Show, Fire Tablets, and Fire TV.

Outcome

As I worked on the Design System team I was able to release several new and improved components, templates and a refreshed human interface guidelines website. I established our very first Newsletter providing monthly updates to change logs, new additions, and showcasing experiences leveraging our design system. I also held weekly Office Hours and the monthly Alexa Designer Sync to continue to evangelize our design system.

Our goals had been achieved with an increased adoption from Amazon domain teams and a more consistent, cohesive experience for the end user. Want to hear more about the work I did with the Alexa Design System? Contact me at vaughnsn@gmail.com
